Storage Ideas to Use When Organizing Your Home

plastic storage boxes

Is it time to start organizing your home? If so, the first thing you want to do is plan what storage items you will need to accomplish your task. We are talking storage items that can be used throughout your house. Let's take a look at several storage items that will solve those clutter or disorganization problems.

- Kitchen

Storage items for the kitchen include cutlery trays, drawer dividers, plastic-covered wire or chrome-coated shelves for the pantry, stackable plastic drawers for the pantry, baskets, crates and rolling bins if room permits. There are also the usual canisters and counter storage containers.

- Bathroom

Storage items for the bathroom are plentiful and include wall hooks for robes and towels, shower caddies, two-tiered towel racks, small plastic drawer units, plastic baskets with handles, tension-mounted vertical storage bar, small decorative boxes, and the list could go on and on! A great organization tool is a shoe bag hung on the back of the bathroom door to store such items as soap, cotton balls, disposable razors, hair clips, and other small necessities. A Lazy Susan installed in the cabinet under the sink gives easy access to those items that are hard to reach. Plastic rather than wood works best in the bathroom.

- Bedroom

Bedrooms need lots of shelves, drawers, and hanging space. Make sure your nightstands have at least one drawer for personal items as well as to stash those magazines and books that seem to accumulate. Every closet needs adequate space to hang clothes but also shelves for folded clothes. There are a variety of closet organizational systems on the market. You can always choose components to put together that fit your needs. One of my favorite closet organizers is a slanted shelf for shoes that attaches to the wall with a bracket. You will want several of these-each shelf holds about three pairs of shoes.

Choosing The Correct Comic Book Storage Box

Plastic Storage Boxes

Most Comic Book Storage Boxes are super strong and come with sturdy well-fitting lids and handle holes that can be left in the closed position for storing or pushed open for carrying. They are properly sized to hold a comic in a bag with a backing board. Comic Book divider cards (used for categorizing) fit in most comic book boxes with the lid on. Comic Book Storage boxes ship flat which takes up less storage room and they fold together when you are ready to use them without glue or tape.

Storing your comics in a properly sized box helps protect your comics from corner and edge damage. Putting your comics in a comic box also protects the comic from being exposed to ultra-violet light and Ultra-violet light causes inks to fade. Most comic book boxes are made form either Corrugated Plastic or Corrugated Cardboard and come in several different lengths for your various storage and display needs.

Comic storage boxes do not need to be acid-free if you have your comics in bags. For short tern storage the most popular material choice for comic storage boxes is corrugated cardboard. It is sturdy and reasonably priced. Corrugated plastic comic boxes are an excellent choice for long-term comic storage because the material is acid-free, water proof, vermin resistant and extremely strong. They are more expensive than the corrugated comic boxes, but the material properties of the plastic corrugated material make the extra cost worth the investment for long term archival comic storage.

Storage and Plastic Containers

Plastic Storage Boxes
Do you have your precious family pictures stored in a garage or shed? Do you have your family treasures stored in a cellar or attic?

Recently I cleaned out my storage sheds that had been full of junk for eleven years. Does this sound familiar? Where does all this junk come from and how does it it accumulates so fast.

What was so horrifying about all this junk that had been stacked and shoved into this small shed for so many years, was the condition of the card board boxes.

The boxes were practically non-existent. The shed leaked and water damage to the boxes and to the items in the boxes was disastrous.

Precious family pictures were so water damaged they had to be tossed into the trash along with many books.
The very worst of this big mess was the fact that mice and rats had gotten into the shed. They had chewed parts of the card board boxes and left droppings inside the boxes and all over the floor of the shed. In order to remove all the junk left in the boxes I had to wear rubber gloves.

Mice and rat droppings can cause you to get really sick if you don't wash your hands frequently. Not only your hands it gets on your clothes and is tracked into the house no matter how careful you are.

If I only knew eleven years ago what I know now. Don’t put anything into a shed, garage, cellar or attic without a plastic container. Today plastic containers come in various sizes and colors. They have lids that fit nice and tight and you can write on them describing what is inside.

I am not selling plastic containers but I highly recommend to each and every one of you who are now storing your precious pictures and family treasures in card board boxes repack them in plastic.

Different Types of Storage Boxes

Plastic Storage Boxes

With the versatility and portability that plastic storage boxes offer kitchens across the United States, there is an increasing trend that is urging people to get organized. The unique lid features in some of the clear plastic storage boxes clamp down and give dust-free protection to valuables throughout the year. A plastic storage box also offers water protection to minks and furs.

There are decorative storage boxes that will give beauty as well as convenience to storage areas that are small and drab. The more popular wooden storage boxes are often used to stack craft projects in organized rows. Any storage box is meant to add convenience to the life of the user. With the use of decorative storage boxes and storage boxes made of wicker, home owners are creating a new shabby chic style in their bathrooms.

For the periodical collectors, who want to protect a large number of collectible issues, there are magazine storage boxes that provide built in cardboard spacers to protect each issue from dry rot, and water damage, through the use of plastic covers that allow the items to be handled with causing damage to the covers.

Men prefer the serviceability of aluminum trailer storage boxes. They have found that these useful storage boxes hold up well even though they are constantly being exposed to the elements of wind and rainy weather. The aluminum storage boxes help to organize feed and tack equipment in an orderly and controlled manner inside horse trailers as they travel down the highway.

With scrap booking enthusiasts, photo storage boxes offer a creative outlet in designing the perfect gift for a photographer or friend that recently had a baby. With ample access to embellishments that they have organized in clear plastic storage boxes, they can quickly find the right accessory to create marvelous memory books.

For genealogy history buffs, the use of photo storage boxes will aid in compiling a photographic history of past and present family members. Any storage box can hold the materials that the crafter uses to label the photographs and add mounting corners to create a wonderful record of family history.

There is a macho statement that is exhibited on the major highways of today, and in parking lots across America. The statement is shown in the back of pick-up trucks that have installed aluminum trailer storage boxes just behind the cab, and inside the bed of the pick-up truck. With the shine and gleam, these decorative aluminum storage boxes divide in the middle and provide convenient access to tools when on the job.

Whether you choose to use plastic storage boxes inside your home or wooden storage boxes in basement areas where past years of work can be archived, these versatile containers will keep all areas neatly organized. Magazine storage boxes will be greatly appreciated in corporate libraries where all issues of business and technology magazines can be used as ready reference materials during board meetings. All of the outstanding uses that a plastic storage box serves, will not cost the company a large amount of money to purchase and will last a long time.
